In Unit 3 we did a personal assessment of three different areas of our lives and how we rated on a scale of 1 - 10, this week in Unit 10 we are revisiting those ratings and the goals we set with them to see what kind of changes had occurred. The areas that were discussed were physical, spiritual, and psychological which are three key components to having a balance in our lives so that we can be able to help others, below are the comparisons of these areas over the last several weeks of the journey to find peace and learning as well.
Physical
In unit 3 I gave myself a 6 out of 10 because of the journey I was on to physical health, If I am completely honest with myself this is a part of the journey I have not made much progress in and where I would leave the score the same. I do not really have any valid excuses to make on why there has not been improvement here other than my own lack of motivation. I have partially implemented in that I have been walking a few days a week but not doing any activity that is going to make an impact in the areas that it needs to. This is an area that I need to refocus on and review my goals as well as implement some type of accountability to help me to stay on track.
Spiritual
In unit 3 I gave myself an 8 out of 10 and this is a score that I believe has improved. Over the last several weeks I have incorporated into my quiet time, time to read my bible and also learn more about my faith. I would say that this is one of the areas I have held to my goals and my plans and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Psychological
In unit 3 I gave myself a 5 out of 10 in this area, this is the area I think that I have made the most improvement in and would now say an 8 out of 10. While there are still somethings that may overwhelm me, the way that I deal with them has much improved so that I am not on such an emotional roller coaster. I will continue to take time out of my day to stop and smell the roses so to speak and to continue to look on the lighter side of things when they begin to feel to heavy.
Over the course of this class I have greatly enjoyed sharing thoughts with my fellow classmates, it has been enlightening to see so many improve in their own lives through the tools we have been taught. I would say if there was one thing that was difficult it would be some of the text, it was at times a bit difficult to read, however I really enjoyed reading on some of the different research projects that were done as well as learning more about spiritual beliefs of other cultures. I think that what I have learned over the past several weeks will help me in my helping profession because I know more about how important the total well being of an individual is and not just one aspect.
On a side note I have really enjoyed learning about all of you and look forward to the possibility of building new relationships so if any of you would like to keep in touch I have put my contact info below.

I too have struggled with maintaining an active physical schedule/routine, in addition to the tasks in my daily schedule. The most helpful advice I've ever been told was to treat the workouts as I would meetings... Plan them and put them in my calendar as a reminder and also to do the workouts at the same time each day to build consistancy. I truly believe that is what helped me get on board with working out. Exercising will not only help with our physical health but also boost mood and help with our emotional/psychological wellness. Its been great getting to know you through class. Best of luck to you in the future!

Wow! good reply Amy. I wanted to wait today for your posted. in the Psychological area, you gave yourself a 5 in unit 3; since then you up graded to an eight. I see that it took a lot of deep thought and points by Dancher to get us all to the final chapter. I had to reach my goal in spirituality via gospel music and church TV shows, I decided to actually join on this year to read and study the words for myself. I wish you well on all your journeys.
ReplyDeleteLovely assessment :) It is great that you have gone back to reading your bible more and have seen the importance of "stopping to smell the roses". I think physical, oddly, enough is the hardest to keep up with up. If I do not have an extremely regimented program it is easy for me to fall back to prior habits. In the other area I think there is more comfort at times and when things get rough it is easy to lean on them and use the exercises presented in this course.
